Prepare for a comfortable first visit

Practice brief, rewarded touches of paws, ears and coat at home. A few calm brush strokes are more useful than a long session that overwhelms the puppy. Tell the groomer what your puppy tolerates today and ask whether an introduction, bath and tidy is a better first goal than a full haircut.

Ask the salon which vaccinations or records it requires and check timing with your veterinarian; policies and individual puppy needs vary. AKC's puppy handling advice recommends short, positive grooming practice. If your puppy seems frightened, discuss a slower introduction rather than forcing a full session.
